Aero Point is on the eastern shore of Seal Cove, a small embayment in Prince Rupert Harbour on the north coast of Kaien Island, at the entrance to Fern Passage, about 90 miles (145 km) southeast of Ketchikan and 2 miles (3.2 km) northeast of downtown Prince Rupert, British Columbia. Aero Point is the home of the Canadian Coast Guard North Coast Marine Communication Centre. The base tracks the movements of shipping along the British Columbia coast.

In 1910, the Canadian Fish and Cold Storage Company established a fish curing and refrigeration plant at Seal Cove. In 1917, the Prince Rupert Lumber Company Mill was built, and later that year R.G. Lowry built another fish packing plant. By 1923, Seal Cove had several boatyards, marine ways, and a hotel. In 1924, the first round the world flight stopped in Seal Cove. In 1940, a new airbase was constructed including a hangar, hospital, radio station, fuel station, and maintenance garage.

Seal Cove is classified as an aerodrome and as an airport of entry and is staffed by the Canada Border Services Agency. Aero Point is now also the southern terminal of an N class ferry known as Spirit of Lax Kw’alaams. The ferry currently runs between Prince Rupert and Port Simpson, also known as Lax Kw’alaams, a First Nation community on the North Coast of British Columbia. Read more here and here.
