Destruction Island is part of the Quillayute Needles National Wildlife Refuge, located 3.5 miles (6 km) offshore from the Olympic Peninsula, about 56 miles (90 km) southwest of Port Angeles and 17 miles (27 km) south-southeast of La Push, Washington.

Kiukpalik Island is 1.3 miles (2 km) long and 0.6 miles (1 km) wide and is part of Katmai National Park and Preserve, but situated 2 miles (3.2 km) offshore from the Alaska Peninsula in Shelikof Strait, about 112 miles (181 km) east of King Salmon and 72 miles (116 km) northwest of Kodiak, Alaska.

Sixes River drains a watershed of about 85,832 acres (34,735 ha) and flows generally west for about 31 miles (50 km) through coastal forests in southwestern Oregon and enters the Pacific Ocean just north of Cape Blanco, about 19 miles (31 km) south-southwest of Bandon and 8 miles (13 km) north-northwest of Port Orford, Oregon.
